First Timer at the Children’s Festival
I have always known about the Calgary International Children’s Festival and heard great things from family members who have taken their children in the past, but never had the nerve to go. Well this year I decided that I was adventurous enough to take my 3 year old and check it out.
The next decision was what to take her to, the website was the perfect tool as it listed the performers by suggested age group. After some contemplation, I decide on a Canadian performance group Splash’N Boots.
“They are back and raisin’ the roof. Jump, twist, twirl, laugh and rock along with the 2007 Canadian Independent Music Awards’ Children’s Group of the Year! Splash’N Boots – Live is an energetic, interactive performance custom-made for those fans who gotta look up to get down. Described as “The Canadian Wiggles” and “The U2 of Children’s Music,” this fresh and dynamic concert will get kids groovin’!”
After that description I was SOLD. Singing and dancing which my daughter loves, plus she would use some of that never-ending energy she possesses!
Finally Saturday arrived and although Mother Nature was not playing nice, we ventured to Olympic Plaza and the Jack Singer to experience the festival. Being a festival in Calgary in May, of course there was the weather back up plan. Many of the activities were moved inside the EPCOR Centre, or were outside under tents, all of which were bustling with children and adults having fun. Every corner had a new surprise from robot races to story time in the +15. As we wandered around very friendly volunteers armed with activity maps for the day asked us if we needed help finding a specific activity.
The show was fabulous and the energy was contagious. I have never experienced so many children singing and dancing in one place. My friend’s 2-year-old son was laughing hysterically and dancing up a storm. Not mention my daughter who was in heaven! Splash’N Boots didn’t just perform on stage but fully engaged the children with Boots wandering the venue and at one point became the Pied Piper surrounded by children wherever she went.
This was a fabulous experience and we will definitely attending in the future. Did I mention my daughter was passed out before we left the parkade…….win-win for EVERYONE!
