The 20 Minute Makeover was a great chance for Calgarians to get out and clean up the city for twenty minutes over lunch on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Individual volunteers and corporate teams came down to meet on Stephen Avenue Walk and start the countdown on the giant clock with Mayor Nenshi. Some teams cleaned the areas around their buildings, like down at Stampede park, on the railway tracks and City TV.
Thanks to the teams from Yelp, the Calgary Public Library, Unique Blend, Impark, Canadian Pacific, Conoco Phillips, the DI, the Calgary Chinese Community Association, Cenovus Energy, PennWest Exploration, the Lilac Festival, Victoria Park, the Calgary Stampede, Attainable Homes and Beltline Communities who pitched in to help. We couldn’t have done it without you.
The downpour towards the end of the 20 minutes put a bit of a damper on things (yep, bad pun intended), but everyone kept cleaning and as one particularly dedicated person remarked, “it helped to keep the dust down”. Plus Kyle from the Centre City team got to show off his stylish new raincoat.
If you weren’t able to take part this year here’s a video of Mayor Nenshi and some of the volunteers that came down to help. The 20 Minute Makeover will be back in 2012 so watch for it next year.
