UFC 149 will be Calgary’s first taste of live mixed martial arts from the world’s largest promoter of the sport. Less than one week after the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth ended for another year, Calgary is host to it’s highest profile fight in recent memory. For those who don’t have tickets to the main event at the Saddledome, you do have some options for catching the action blow by blow.
Flames Central has you covered if you’re looking for a place to get a meal, some drinks and sit in a nice chair during the action. Additionally, Flames Central is hosting a weigh-in/pre-fight party for Friday, July 20th. The weigh-in takes place at the Saddledome, but Flames Central has the live feed and of course will host a party afterwards.
On a related note, Mixed Martial Arts advocate and UFC commentator Joe Rogan is doing two shows of stand-up at the Jack Singer Concert Hall. Rogan is best known for playing ‘Joe’ on NewsRadio in the 90s, and as the host of the gross-out game show Fear Factor through the early 00s. Rogan is an established stand-up comedian who put his martial arts career on hold in his 20s to focus on comedy. Now with a popular podcast, a gig commentating the UFC and a number of comedy albums under his belt, he makes his way to Calgary for two shows on Friday, July 20th.
The first show sold out quickly and a second was added due to popular demand. For those without tickets, check out the EPCOR Centre‘s website as there should be tickets available for the late show. If you already have tickets, check the site as the showtimes have shifted slightly to accommodate the additional show.
