The bikes are being shined up. The mustaches and beards are being trimmed. A sensible pair of sneakers has been bought. And a wristband has been slapped onto several hundred wrists. Yep, Sled Island Music & Arts Festival is back and with what is shaping up to be the best year yet! Between Jim Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees playing the guest curator and The Jesus and Mary Chain headlining on Saturday at Olympic Plaza, it should be a magical week of music, art, film and culture.
Haven’t been to Sled Island before? Wondering what to wear? Well, first of all you are going to want to keep it simple. Some people literally live in the same clothes for the entire fest - it makes it easy and you can toss out those jeans when you are done. But if you keep it neutral you’ll be able to splurge on some sweet band tees and merch to flesh out your wardrobe a bit. Essentially, you’ll need a comfortable jacket like the Heritage denim one pictured here for when it gets chilly, sunglasses and a tote bag - we love the Sled Island one and only $5 it is a steal! For the Olympic Plaza shows, try out the Sled Island grey tank with a straw fedora to keep the sun out of your eyes. Mix it all up with your favourite pair of jeans and a great pair of sneakers like these Maians lace-ups. You’ll be whizzing from show to show in perfect summer style.
