Last month we were excited to share our new #IAMDOWNTOWN campaign with Calgarians and we planned a great block party on Stephen Avenue to kick things off.
While #IAMDOWNTOWN is already being used on social media, and our micro-site is live, we were forced to cancel our block party twice due to weather.
As many of you already know, downtown Calgary experienced flooding and was closed for almost 2 weeks. While it is unfortunate that our party was cancelled, the real tragedy is the catastrophic blow to the people and businesses in the area.
Now more than ever, it’s imperative that we support local businesses. In addition to property damage from flood water, restaurants were forced to throw-out much of their food, retailers were unable to open, and cultural institutions had to reschedule important fundraisers.
Now that things are mostly back to normal, we’ve rescheduled our block party to July 20th. This event will combine all the events we were forced to cancel due to the flood, and help us keep the momentum from this year’s Stampede going.
In addition to the usual Saturday buskers and vendors on Stephen Avenue, we’ve got a full day of fun scheduled. Stop by and support local businesses while having some uniquely downtown fun.
Events include:
- A Dog Market
- Prizes given out by Roller Derby Girls from Nerd Roller Skate Shop
- Ice cream samples from the Village Creamcycle
- Frapuccino samples from McDonalds
- Stage programmed by CJSW Summer Concert Series
- Street piano performances
- Oversized chess & checkers
- Fiestaval in Olympic Plaza
- #IAMDOWNTOWN Instagram frame
The entire core will be buzzing with action, so be sure to come downtown on July 20th between 12pm and 6pm. All the events are free.
