Expo Latino - Aug 28, 29, 30
Western Canada’s Largest Latin Festival is back for its 19th Anniversary. Enjoy a weekend of sizzling music and dance, exotic foods, and world-class performances by: Juno Award winner Oscar Lopez, Latin reggae Gondwana, Bachata duo Monchy and Nathalia, Cuban sensation Leoni Torres, Sonora and Ilegales. Expo Latino has something for everyone August 28 - 30.
Stephen Avenue Stage Performances - Aug 25 - 29
Running Tuesday to Saturday this week, join us for free concerts from Noon to 1pm. Our stage features local and touring artists and is located just outside the Telus Convention Centre just off Centre Street on 8th avenue SE.
- Tuesday, August 25th - The Calgary Creative Arts Ensemble
- This week of performances on Stephen Avenue will begin with the Calgary Creative Arts Ensemble (CCAE), Calgary’s newest jazz big band, featuring musicians who collaborate with international performers and composers, to bring exciting, dynamic new music to Calgarians.
- Wednesday, August 26th - Fiona Malena Flamenco
- Performer Fiona Malena will be showcasing her world famous flamenco dancing on Wednesday. With the energized fusion of world music, rhythms, and unique instrumentation such as the Hang drum, her performances have recently led to consecutive sold-out concerts in Spain.
- Thursday, August 27th - Youth Singers of Calgary
- “Shine” Youth Singers of Calgary will be performing on Thursday. This talented ensemble of singers give high energy performances that will get you moving. The Youth Singers program believe that through the performing arts, young people can find passion, purpose, and direction.
- Friday, August 28th - The Pana Band Salsa Orchestra
- The Pana Band Salsa Orchestra has performed at festivals in and around Calgary since forming back in 2009. Their unique sound comes from modernizing Latin American music by arranging soul and R&B classics into danceable salsa rhythms. This performance comes just in time for Expo Latino, where Latin music, food and culture come together on Princes Island Park.
- Saturday, August 29th - Generations of Music 1980’s featuring Burning the Ground
- After two weeks away, the “Decades of Music” Saturdays are back, with Burning the Ground a group who have been performing the ultimate tribute to the music of the 1980s for 18 years. Playing the hits made originally famous by Billy Idol, The Cure, Duran Duran and more.
Chatters Grand Opening - Aug 27th
Chatters TD Square Grand Opening featuring haircuts by minimum $10 donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities Southern Alberta. You can also play games and enter to win door prizes.
Street Piano Series - August 25, 26 & 27
Visit the Woodlands Street Piano for 3 performances this week! Our regular Tuesday and Thursday shows will be joined by a special Wednesday sing-a-long performance from Street Piano Series coordinator Kenna Burima.
