Executive Chef James Waters and cocktail curator Christina Mah have joined forces to open up a new spot in town, Klein/Harris.
Hiding from the spotlight, the grand opening was promoted quietly; eager to make sure that every last detail was just perfect before the crowds started flooding in.
And, with libations and entrees like we sampled, we’re sure that crowd will be flooding in any moment now.
Inspired to bring “true north” cuisine to Calgary, the Canadiana dishes feature seasonal ingredients, coast-to-coast combinations, and a mix of sweet and sour flavours that dance on your tongue with eat bite.
Serving up small and large plates, Klein/Harris caters to those looking for a cool spot to grab a few drinks after work as well as those who are self-proclaimed foodies just hoping to share a good quality meal. #winwin
Sneaking in before the grand opening, we had the pleasure of tasting sample sizes from the menu, and not-so-sample sizes from the elevated libation program.
From pulled pork lettuce wraps to plump diver scallops, the simplicity of fresh food and creative elements really shone through.
And, although we loved each and every of the eleven items we taste-tasted, some of the highlights were:
Candied pork belly, lightly brushed with sticky maple butter,
Roast pork, coated in a tangy screech reduction,
And, mushroom ravioli, cooked to perfection and stuffed full of wild mushrooms, then topped with brown buttered leeks and shaved Gouda.
Worth a honourable mention was the beet mosaic, bursting with a combination of salt roasted beets, oat crumble, and chunks of goat cheese.
But, as hinted above, the food at Klein/Harris is only half the fun.
Pass through the dining tables to the back of the restaurant and you’ll find yourself happening on low-seated blue couches, surrounded by ‘50s inspired accents. The space is utterly welcoming, encouraging you to take a seat and stay awhile.
Serving up a variety of cocktails, from Classics to True North and Not-so-True North, Klein/Harris has created a menu that calls for adventure and inspires your inner cocktail connoisseur.
Crowd favourites were the K/H Caesar, loaded with a house combination of K/H clam and celery broth, as well as the refreshing Oatty, filled with a combination of Eau Claire Equinox, apple syrup, bitters, and citric acid.
Open any day except Sunday, Klein/Harris deserves a spot on your list, whether it’s for a cocktail celebration or just downright good food.
Check it out on Stephen Ave, located at 110 – 8 Ave SW Calgary.
