Street Style Huntress: Fond Boutique

by Aldona Barutowicz · 0 comments

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been shopping thrift, vintage and consignment. I’m a firm believer that you don’t need to spend a million dollars to look amazing, and of course, the sustainable portion of consignment is very important to me as well.

Tanya Puka founded a mobile shop called Fond Boutique this past year, and I love her mission and outlook on fashion. She delivers curated selection of timeless, pre-worn pieces, and you can find a lot of great clothing and accessories at Fond. Some of the popular brands they carry include Rag & Bone, Jimmy Choo, Club Monaco, Citizens of Humanity, Gucci, Opening Ceremony, Alexander Wang, Helmut Lang, L.A.M.B, Pink Tartan and more!

Fond was kindled from a passion for sifting through thrift shops in search of overlooked treasures, which obviously speaks straight to my heart! Make sure you go check it out at http://www.fondboutique.com, and of course, below for Puka’s own fabulous personal style!

How would you describe your personal style?

I would say my style is classic minimalist. I love structure and shape, good denim and interesting jewelry. Lately I’ve been inspired by tomboy style and love the loose fitting, yet structured silhouettes.

What are some of your influences when it comes to fashion?

Travel. I recently went to Japan and fell in love with the aesthetic – everyone took such pride in style. The definition of beauty changes as you move around the globe, which is always so inspiring and grounding for me.

What are some of your favourite trends right now?

I am the worst to ask when it comes to trends! I’ve been wearing the same turtlenecks for seven years and I tend to stick to familiar cuts no matter what is going on out there. If I was to mention a trend that I have forever adopted it would be anything high-waisted or culottes – these work wonders for a gal with a booty!

What fashion advice would you give to others?

Wear what makes you feel good before anything else.

Pay attention to where you shop as you are investing in the success of that business and hold more buying power than you think. It does matter where your clothes from.

Invest in timeless pieces - it will cost you less in the long run!

Tell us more about the projects and work that you’re involved with.

I work at Brandsmith, a marketing agency that specializes in branding. This past year I founded a mobile shop called Fond Boutique. The concept is driven by style and delivers a curated selection of chic, timeless, pre-worn clothing, shoes and accessories. Each item is thoughtfully hand picked by design, authenticity and condition.

When did you start your business and what was the inspiration? Goals?

The boutique was inspired by my passion for sifting through thrift shops in search of overlooked treasures. Thrift finds are often cherished, and I wanted to capture this and build my business around cultivating a sense of pride in the secondhand shopping experience. My goal is to help to empower women in their choice to innovate and reclaim fashion.

What are some of your future aspirations?

So many! I’d love to work with a designer to build an atelier house line made entirely from re-purposed, pre-worn clothing. Each piece would be one of a kind.

How does your work influence your personal style?

Constantly! I rarely choose to shop in a traditional format and I am constantly inspired by the selection worn by the amazing women who consign with me.
