As I mentioned in my last column, one of my favourite parts of January is One Yellow Rabbit’s High Performance Rodeo - actually, without it, I’m not sure how I would react to January at all. I love the shows the company present each year, and the 31st annual edition has been absolutely spectacular thus far. The good news is that there is much more to come, as the festival goes right through to February 2, 2017.
Once again I’ve had a blast photographing at the shows, and my highlight thus far has definitely been catching the opening of the festival with Songs of Resilience, and then of course meeting and photographing the incredible musicians of the Queer Songbook Orchestra.
But it doesn’t end there - Karen Hines and the talented cast and crew of All The Little Animals I Have Eaten - was a show I won’t soon forget (in the best way!), while I’m still left giggling after finally seeing the 10 Minute Play Festival, while the super cool story and flip books of Portraits in Motion at Theatre Junction left me feeling warm and optimistic about the human race.
So if you have the opportunity to see some amazing theatre, I encourage you to do so - there’s no better way to stay happy and warm in what otherwise could easily be a sad January. Happy Rodeo everyone! https://www.hprodeo.ca
