ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS WELL - Until January 28th, 2017
Provocative Canadian playwright Brad Fraser, and charismatic theatre director Peter Hinton, join forces to bring Shakespeare’s lesser-known Romantic Tragi- Comedy to centre stage.
All’s Well That Ends Well is a romantic tale about Helena, in love with the unrequiting Bertram and the great lengths she’ll go to win his affection. Known as one of Shakespeare’s darker comedies, All’s Well That Ends Well is the fusion of folk and fairy tale woven through the battlefield of love, betrayal and seduction.
The Shakespeare Company is Calgary’s lean and mean classical theatre company, highlighting the best of the Bard in all his comedy, tragedy and bawdiness.
Tickets and showtime information can be found on High Performance Rodeo’s website.
BY HEART - January 24th-26th, 2017
In By Heart, Portuguese playwright and actor Tiago Rodrigues teaches a poem to 10 people in front of the audience. These 10 people have never seen the performance and they have no idea which text they will be learning by heart. While teaching them, Rodrigues unfolds a mix of stories of his soon-to-be-blind grandmother and stories of writers and characters from books that are, somehow conneccted to the old lady and himself.
By Heart is about a theatre that recognizes itself as that place of transmission of what you can’t measure in metres, euros or bytes. It’s about the safe hiding place that forbidden texts have always found in our brains and our hearts, as a guarentee of civilization even in the most barbaric and desolate times.
This takes place at the Big Secret Theatre at Arts Commons. Ticket and showtime information can be found on High Performance Rodeo’s website.
THROUGH THE GAZE OF A NAVEL - January 26th-29th, 2017
More than a mere a kiss-and-tell of a person’s life-long self-help escapades, Emelia Symington Fedy examines the line between seeking out enlightenment and destructive navel-gazing.
Emelia Symington Fedy has been obsessed with making herself better since she was a kid. From swimming with cosmic dolphins to crystal bowl vibrational healing, Symington Fedy has done it all. In Through the Gaze of a Navel, she asks the big questions while guiding you through a physical journey suitable for people of all levels of experience. Her irreverence is hilarious but the darkness she encounters is real.
A class/show that you can participate in or observe, Through the Gaze of a Navel premiered in Vancouver to a sold-out run and has since toured yoga studios, festivals and theatres across Canada. Ticket and showtime information can be found here. This show takes place at Lunchbox Theatre.
