The 2017 Honens Festival kicks off on September 7 and runs through September 10. This year’s festival is still described as an award winning, four-day festival of music, but with a side of maple syrup!
To continue the celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, we’re honoured to have Katherine Chi, both the only woman and Canadian to be named Honens Prize Laureate, return to Calgary to perform not only at the festival but also Concrete Sonata for a dynamic community concert.
Concrete Sonata is part of a series of concerts created by Honens and Downtown Calgary with the support of the City of Calgary. This series brings Honens Laureates to perform free and unique piano performances on one of the Downtown Calgary Street pianos. This special performance will be held September 8 from 12pm to 1pm at the Woodlands piano located at 3 Street and 6 Avenue SW.
In 2000, Katherine Chi became the first woman and only Canadian to win the Honens Piano Competition. She is now firmly established as one of Canada’s foremost pianists, having performed throughout Europe and North America to great acclaim.
