With just a month of summer left, there are still hoards of amazing events coming up in Downtown Calgary. There will be festivals, live music, entertainment and good eats. Keep reading to load up your calendar for August.
Taste of Calgary | August 10-13, 2017
Taste of Calgary is the city’s most appetizing festival, giving visitors the chance to sample the city’s food, beverages, music and other cool things.
Discover Calgary’s global cuisines from a mix of unique restaurants and beverage companies. Plus get a taste of Calgary’s great musicians and shop at some of the most interesting marketplace vendors in the city.
The festival will be open daily from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, Thursday, August 10 to Sunday, August 13, 2017.
Buy sampling tickets for $1 each right at the festival or on the Taste of Calgary website and use them to sample any of the food or beverage menu items. Admission to the festival is free and includes a taste of Calgary’s best musical acts!
PEELED: Calgary Cocktail Festival | August 12-14, 2017
PEELED is a Calgary-based cocktail festival committed to supporting, promoting and growing the cocktail industry in Calgary. For its first year, PEELED will offer many different types of “cocktail interactions” and curated cocktail experiences. The weekend will also feature seminars, tastings, networking events and more.
Launched out of a passion for the spirits industry, its creativeness and potential, PEELED is a collaborative effort between spirits companies, mixologists, food and beverage purveyors, event planners and media to develop and grow the cocktail community in Calgary.
Downtown participants include: Bank and Baron, Klein/Harris, One18 Empire, Sub Rosa and The Derrick Gin Mill. Guests will experience amazing creations and meet the talent behind their making.

Stephen Avenue Summer Stage | August 8, 9, 10 & 12, 2017
Grab lunch, a buddy and pop a squat down at the Stephen Avenue Summer Stage Tuesdays through Thursdays for a mix of amazing local and international talent over the noon hour.
If you’re a blues fan, come by on Monday’s for “Monday Blues” starting August 14th at noon.
Maybe you prefer something more upbeat. Saturdays on the stage we have DJ Tom Mannix bringing his swag for 3 hour shows from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Proarts presents Holly Blazina playing Flamenco Guitar at Cathedral Church (7 Ave and 1 St SE) August 9, 2017 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
When first exposed to Flamenco’s passionate, soulful melodies and driving rhythms, Holly Blazina knew she had found her home musically. This quickly led to a lifelong commitment to the art of Flamenco. Holly has had the good fortune of studying intensively with renowned artists both in Spain and North America.

Shakespeare by the Bow | August 27, 2021
Calgary’s beloved Shakespeare by the Bow continues till the end of August with Theatre Calgary presenting Shakespeare’s “As You Like It”.
Follow the brave heroine Rosalind, and her cousin Celia, as they escape the rigid rules of court life for the wilds and freedom of the Forest of Arden. Here, they will fall in and out of love, encounter one of Shakespeare’s greatest fools, and discover the value of true friendship.
